Moving a chandelier is not an easy task, they are fragile and can easily break, not to mention they can cost a lot of money to replace. Once they are disconnected from the ceiling, there are a few steps you want to make sure you take to make the moving chandelier process as easy as possible. Of course, a removal company is an ideal way to do this, they have experience in handling such delicate objects so your best bet is to leave the actual moving process to them. There are things you can do beforehand to save time, however. Keep reading below if you want to know what these things are.
First things first, there are a certain number of items you will need to actually pack and store the chandelier. Most removalist companies will already have all these things if you don’t have time to go out and get them yourself. You should always tell them in advance so they are ready when moving day comes, but if you want to go out and buy the materials yourself feel free to. A few of the things you will need for packing the chandelier include a strong box that is large enough to fit it, measuring tape, foam, packing tape, bubble wrap, packing boxes, tie wraps, screwdriver, and packing peanuts. There are a lot of items on the list so if you don’t have the time to go out and search for them all, I suggest you let the removalist company supply them for you.
- The first thing you need to do before the whole moving chandelier process, is prepare the box which the chandelier will go in. You want to use a measuring tape to make sure that the box is big enough to fit the chandelier as well as foam for the top and bottom part of the box. Remember that you will need to use a lot of tape to seal the bottom of the box before you put anything in it!
- Carefully take all the light bulbs out of the chandelier. Count them as you are doing this and wrap them individually. To wrap the light bulbs you can either use newspaper, tissue paper, or bubble wrap. Count them again and put them in a separate box; make sure you also label the box clearly so they don’t get broken!
- You want to start deconstructing the chandelier by taking off any pieces that may be detachable. Some of these things might include candle cups, prisms or chains that are attached with hooks. Some of these fixtures might be connected with screws and nuts, so carefully remove those and make sure not to lose any! Wrap these pieces individually with bubble wrap and put them in a separate box. You should place them one piece at a time with packing peanuts in between each item, making sure that they aren’t touching each other. Tape up the box and make sure to also label it clearly!
- The next part is to secure any loose cables, twist them around so they are neat and then secure them with tie wraps. Most people think that using sticky tape will be fine, but this actually leaves a sticky residue on the cable when you take it off. If you don’t want to be cleaning it after, then you should use a tie wrap.
- When you put the chandelier in the box you want to have it upright in the box on top of a layer of foam. Pack the packing peanuts tightly so when you take your hand off the chandelier it doesn’t move. Once you have it packed tightly enough, place another piece of foam on top and seal the box. Of course, the moving chandelier process can all be done by removalists.
