Drip, drip, drip. Is that a leaky sink you hear? Perhaps it’s time for an upgrade. If you’re like most of us, a D.I.Y. project can seem daunting. Perhaps you have a little project in the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. When we have so much to do we may become overwhelmed and all stops. I am here to show you how to start and finish your project when it comes to updating your old bathroom sink.
Make a Plan
Consider how you want your bathroom to look like. Do you need a bigger sink that will make it easier for you to do your makeup in the morning? Or do you want premium basin mixer taps – like those you saw in your favorite restaurant?
Whatever your reason may be, it’s important to first determine your budget. Also, what kind of aesthetic are you looking for? Do you want to bring the outside in with an earthy tone bathroom or do you want a more regal look? I have some great ideas starting with basin water taps.
Mixer Taps
There is nothing more pesky than trying to figure out how to cut on a water knob. Thankfully, featuring sleek and modern designs, basin mixer taps are starting to replace those hot and cold knocks. What are some ways to style your new tap?
For starters, if you haven’t picked your design yet, that’s okay. Whether your bathroom is small or big the options are endless. Taking a look at the options online or in-store will inspire you. Suppose you know you will have white tile in the area your new mixer tap will go, almost any colour can go with white. I suggest the colours such as matte black or brushed brass. These colours pop out in contrast to a white background.
Your new basin mixer tap can be chrome, matte black, brushed brass, or brushed nickel. These are super easy to maintain without any random grooves where water can get trapped into.
Did you know your new basin mixer can not only be an upgrade in design but function as well? An in-wall swivel mixer is the newest way to give a new function to your bathroom. If you are a new mom who likes to wash her little one in the small basin you have, a swivel basin mixer is just for you. You no longer need to be extra careful not to hurt your little one. You can easily move it out of the way. This feature is also ideal for doing laundry in the basin. It’s new, it’s in and it’s useful! Talk about getting the most bang for your buck.
In addition, you can find your new bathroom basin taps to be from 180mm to 240mm. If you want something more off the wall, go with a longer option. And if you want a more hidden option, shorter is ideal. Now do you want it attached to the wall or the bathroom counter? This too will help you determine how long you want it to be.
Let’s Get to Basins
Ok, I hope by now you are gathering more of an idea of what you want. You don’t have to go with a chrome basin tap and a white basin. That’s a tried and true design but now you get to think outside the box. What will you come up with? Have you thought about the basin? A vanity is something that first comes to mind, however, you can set your new basin inside or on top of your new vanity. Square and round basins are very popular nowadays.
For example, a black basin would pair with a brushed brass basin mixer tap. The bathroom can have a black-and-white theme with brass undertones such as towel hooks, and light fixtures. This will give the added pop to your bathroom without breaking the bank.
Hear me out, what about concrete basins? I know when we hear concrete we don’t immediately think bathroom but concrete basins are a true statement piece in any bathroom. A concrete basin does require a bit more care compared to a metal or brass one but the look is so worth it.
A concrete basin has clean lines and brings a contemporary look to your space. Due to its nature, I would recommend this material in a bathroom that is intended for guests. You will be sure to get compliments but also preserve it better. A tall chrome basin mixer tap would pair well with the basin. You will have the effect of metal without it being metal with its dark grey colour combination.
Let’s Get It Started
You are off to a great start in finishing your new bathroom. Be assured, the blood, sweat and tears you put into the work will not go unnoticed. This do-it-yourself project will be your next did-it-yourself project. Checking things off your list feels just as good as a cold drink on a hot day. It’s refreshing. Now you can see that you accomplished one thing, it’s time to move on to the next. Before you know, it maybe you will be done with 5-6 things on your list. Your home will soon become the place of your dreams. On to the next one. Is it time for a new toilet?
