As Mother’s Day approaches, I can’t stop thinking about what my mother and I have in common. Aside from the facial features, naturally curly hair and body shape, successfully balancing family and work seems to be another thing we both share.

My mother, a saleswoman, had to find patience for me and my sister after coming home from spending hours in a noisy store. And, since I work from home, I also have to be patient when my two kids start jumping around my home office or bring their friends after school. What I want to say is that balancing work and family is difficult, but if you give your best, the results are extremely satisfying and rewarding.

Being a working mom can sometimes be exhausting. I admit it. It is even frustrating at moments. But keeping a cool had is something my mum taught me best. Thanks to her, I know how to balance work and family. Here are a few tips I’ve learned from her.

Accept Compromises

When you choose to be a working mom, there will always be sacrifices and compromises. The key to your happiness is accepting the compromises with one simple thought: “Everything I do is for the good of my family”!

Be A Great Parent Instead Of a Perfect One

The meaning of being a great parent has reached a level “impossible” to achieve. Magazines and other meadia continue to idealize the image of the “perfect” photoshopped parent. Accepting to be a ‘good enough’ parent takes enormous pressure off. Trying to be a super mum who does everything right and looks impeccable limits the chances of truly enjoy parenthood and of raising a good child. Instead be who you are, be a good enough parent and a role model for the values you believe in.

Never Judge Other Mothers

My mum was that type of mum who did her own things right and never cared about what others thought of her. And most importantly, she never judged other moms. What I learned from her is that everyone does what’s best for them according to their circumstances.

Take Care Of Your Needs

Taking care of your family and being a great worker is extremely exhausting, especially when kids are small and dependent on you. However, do not forget to take care for your needs as well. When possible, ask your mum to babysit your kids for you and enjoy the little free time you have for pampering yourself with a spa, or to be romantic with your husband. After all, we all have needs and deserve some time to ourselves.

Having a mum is a gift. Without her, I wouldn’t know what’s the real meaning of being a parent. If your mum is your role model and your biggest support, surprise her with something nice this Mother’s Day.

There are many online retailers like Mydeal.com.au that have a vast of different products and special gift promotions for Mother’s Day.
